In this study, we aimed to investigate the presence of slime factor in Candida strains isolated from various clinical samples. Total 100 strains of Candida , 49 from vaginal cultures, 25 from urinary specimens, 13 from sputum, six from nasopharynx, three from blood, two from peritoneal aspirations and two from wound infections were investigated. Of total 100 Candida strains, 72 were identified as Candida albicans (72% ), and nine Candida tropicalis (9%), seven Candida kefyr (7% ), six Candida krusei ( 6% ), two Candida parapsilosis (2%), two Candida pseudotropicalis (2%) and two Candida dubliniensis (2%). Slime production was performed by modified tube adherence test and 12 strains found as slime factor producer (12%). Of the slime factor positive strains, six were Candida albicans (8.3%), two Candida tropicalis (22.2%), two Candida kefyr (28.6%), one Candida krusei (16.7%), and one Candida dubliniensis (50%). It was determined that slime production was positive in 8.3% of Candida albicans strains, and in 25 % of non-albicans strains.
