In this retrospective study, it was aimed to evaluate drug resistance rates in 100 Mycobacterıum tuberculosis complex strains isolated from 2011 tuberculosis suspected patients between January 2001 to December 2003 in our hospital againts primary anti-tuberculosis drugs; . After decontamination and homogenisation procedures, specimens were inoculated into BACTEC 460 TB System for culture and susceptibilities of the strains were examined for streptomycine, ısoniazid, rifampin and ethambutol by the same method. Seventy-one (%71) of one hundred M. tuberculosis comlex strains were not resistant to any major drug . But 29 of these isolates were resistant to at least one or more of the drugs (isoniazid (24%), ethambutol (10%), streptomycine (13%), rifampine (11%)). Seven strains were resistant to two drugs, five strains to three and three strains to four drugs. Regular and continuous screening of anti-tubeculosis drug resistance should be accomplished to survey the presence of drug resistant strains in populations, to define the suitable drug regimens and to evaluate the quality of tuberculosis control programs.
