Clostridium difficile is the most frequent cause in antibiotic-associated diarrhoea and nosocomial diarrhoea. Various methods to detect this agent have been defined and the detection of toxin A+B using ELISA is a frequently used method. In this study we investigated the presence of Clostridium difficile toxin A+B in outpatients diagnosed with antibiotic associated diarrhoea using ELISA. The number of positive cases was 3 out of 70 samples (4.3%). This rate was found to be less than expected and the possible reasons are discussed.
