Probable explanations of the pathogenesis of intracellular infections of Salmonella typhimurium can be of help for the explanations of other intracellular pathogenes' s infections. Studies on these intracellular infection models with mouse peritoneal macrophages may be useful in establishing “low cost” research areas, and may support probable studies which can be defined as “niches”, especially in our country research conditions, and even may be helpful to build up collaberative research studies with foreign research laboratories. In this sudy, peritoneal macrophages of C57/BL mice which is known to be resistant to Salmonella typhimurium, were infected with Salmonella typhimurium, and apoptosis responses were evaluated by Hoechst 33342 and propidium iodide dyes. As a result, we may say that the nature of the “resistant” response of C57/BL is mostly of “necrotic” origin.
