In serious and life-threatening infections caused by Gram-negative bacteria, aminoglycoside group antibiotics are preferred. However, the resistance to these antibiotics is an important problem. Isepamicin is a new aminoglycoside which is more resistant to these enzymes. In this study, 150 Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains isolated from various clinical samples of patients treated at Celal Bayar University, between January 1999 and December 2001, have been evaluated. The suscebtibiliyt of the 150 P. aeruginosa strains to isepamicin and amikacin have been examined by Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion method. One hundred and forty four of the strains examined (96%) have been found to be sensitive to both isepamicin and to amikacin. On the other hand six of them have been shown to be resistant to both antibiotics.
