Keywords: Diagnosis of HCV infection, HCV RNA, PCR, Serology |
Serum samples obtained from 95 patients with suspected HCV infection were analyzed. 73 anti-HCV positive, 22 anti –HCV negative samples were examined with PCR for the absence or present of viremia. Serology and PCR methods gave concordant results for 75 samples, 58 of them were positive and 17 of them were negative in both assays. In 14 anti- HCV positive cases HCV- RNA was detected negative . A negative result in the HCV- EIA was observed in two HCV- RNA positive samples. When compared to the patients serological status, as assesed by anti-HCV EIA, the results of PCR showed an overall concordance rate of 82,4%.
