In this study, we aimed to determine the prevalence of antimicrobial susceptibilities of Moraxella catarrhalis strains and the
identification of BRO beta-lactamases. Our study included 50 M.catarrhalis strain isolated from various clinical samples (45
sputum, 2 throat smear, 1 nose leakage smear, 1 hemoculture, 1 endotracheal aspirate) in the Department of Microbiology
and Clinical Microbiology of Cerrahpasa Faculty of Medicine. The antimicrobial susceptibilities of strains against ampiciline,
cefuroxime, cefotaxime, ceftriaxone, erythromicine, clindamicine, tetracycline, gentamycin, ciprofloxacine were detected
by the agar dilution method with the recommendations of Clinical and Laboratory Standarts Institute. Moreover, betalactamases
of M.catarrhalis strains were typed by isoelectric focusing method. Beta-lactamases positivity was detected in 47
(94%) of the M.catarrhalis strains by nitrocephin disc test. Three (6%) of the M. catarrhalis strains showed no beta-lactamases.
41 (87.2%) and six (12.8%) of the BRO beta- lactamases were identified as BRO-1 and BRO-2, respectively.
