Brucellosis is an infectious disease with a considerably high morbidity and low mortality rate in our country. Each year thousands of people contract this disease which causes physical inadequacy and job loss for people.

In the study, the standard tube agglutination test (STA) and Rose Bengal agglutination test (RB) were compared with each other. The antibodies that are produced by rivanol tube agglutination were separated in terms of IgG and IgM. In addition to these, the relationship between titrations of standard tube agglutination test and biochemical values were evaluated.

Eighty five patients, who were sent to the microbiology laboratory with brucellosis pre-diagnosis who had 1/160 and higher titre in their serum samples with a standard tube agglutination were included in the study. In these patients, a Rose Bengal test, which is used as a rapid diagnosis test, and a rivanol tube agglutination test were studied. With the Rose Bengal test, 11 out of 85 patients (13%) were detected as negative. In 62% of the patients C-Reactive protein (CRP), in 31% of the patients alanin aminotransferaz (ALT), in 32% of the patients aspartat aminotranspherase (AST), and in 69% of the patients sedimantation was high. In addition, 15% of the patients leucocytosis was detected, in 17% of the patients leucopenia, in 35% of the patients hypochromic microcytic anemia, and in 12% of the patients thrombocytopenia was observed.

There was a correlation between biochemical tests and the STA test. As STA titre increased CRP level had a parallel rise, the platelet number decreased, especially with 1/160 and 1/320 titres of STA a sufficient antibody response did not occur. It was found that sensitivity of the Rose Bengal test significantly decreased.
