Th e present study was performed to determine the serotype and antimicrobial susceptibilities of 35 Salmonella spp. isolated from blood and faeces samples in Microbiology and Clinical Microbiology Laboratory, between May 2004-September 2007.

Th irty-five Salmonella strains were sero-typed with Salmonella antisera (Denka Seiken, Japan). Th e sensitivities of these strains to trimetophrim-sulfamethoxazole, ofl oxacin, ampicilline, chloramphenicol, ceft riaxone and nalidixic acid were evaluated with disc diff usion method.

Twenty-six (74.3%) of Salmonella strains isolated were Salmonella Typhimurium, eight (22.9%) were Salmonella Enteritidis and one was Salmonella typhi. Among the 35 Salmonella strains isolated; 17 (48.6%) were resistant to only ampicilline, other isolates were sensitive to all antibiotics tested. Th is study showed that chloramphenicol, trimetophrim-sulfamethoxazole and quinolones are still choice in the treatment of Salmonella infections as in the past.
