Keywords: Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex, tuberculosis, Anti-tuberculostatic drug susceptibility |
Objective: This study was aimed to determine the susceptibilities of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex strains isolated from various clinical samples at Mycobacteriology Laboratory of Department of Medical Microbiology, Erciyes University Medical Faculty, Kayseri to major anti-tuberculosis drugs.
Materials and Methods: The susceptibilities of 32 Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex strains isolated from various clinical samples were determined to the four first-line anti-tuberculosis drugs [isoniazid (INH), rifampin (RİF), ethambutol (ETM) and streptomycine (S)] by the BACTEC TB 460 system.
Results: The rates of mono-drug resistance were 15.6 % for S, 18.7 % for INH, 0 % for RIF and 0 % for ETM. Only one strain (3.1 %) was resistant to more than one drug (INH+ S).
Conclusion: Larger scale studies are needed for the determination of the resistance profile of M. tuberculosis complex strains to the major anti-tuberculosis drugs in our region.
