Pseudomonas aeruginosa is responsible from serious infections in patients and frequently resistance to antibiotics is seen among these strains. The purpose of the study was to determine the in-vitro susceptibility of clinical Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains isolated in Afyon to antibiotics .
P. aeruginosa isolated in various samples which were sent to our laboratory between January 2003- October 2004 were included in this study. The identification and susceptibility tests of the bacteria were performed by Mini API instrument. Totally 101 P. aeruginosa were isolated of 49 from urine, of 26 from pus, of 12 from sputum, of 6 from broncho alveolar lavage (BAL), of 5 from wound cultures, of 2 from blood cultures and 1 from aspiration sample. The susceptibility rates of these strains were as follows; amikacin, meropenem, imipenem, piperacillin and ciprofloxacin with rates 85%, 80%, 78%, 69% and 65%, respectively.
End of the study, data collected can be used to determine local trends in susceptibility and then aid the select of empirical treatment and intelligent use of antibiotics.
