Influenza Surveillance Data of Influenza Reference Laboratory for 2015-2016 Flu Season |

Objective: In this study evaluation of 2015-2016 influenza
surveillance results of Influenza Reference Laboratory of
Istanbul University, Medical Faculty was aimed.
Material and Methods: Influenza viruses in nasal swab
samples, which were sent to the Influenza Reference
Laboratory in Istanbul University, Medical Faculty Virology
and Basic Immunology Division within the context of the
Influenza Surveillance, were investigated using real-time
PCR method.
Results: A total 2024 nasal swab samples were investigated
at the Influenza Reference Laboratory at the 20th week of
2015-2016 flu season. Influenza virus was detected in 610
(30%) of the investigated samples. Three hundred and
nineteen (52%) positive samples were identified as influenza
A (H1N1) pdm09, 201 (33%) as influenza A H3N2 and 90
(15%) as influenza B.
Conclusion: Surveillance studies are extremely important for
unveiling the effects of flu on public health and determining
the methods for fighting against flu. According to our results
the 17-51th weeks in 2015-2016 flu season were determined to
be the activation time, while the peak period occurred in the
3rd week with influenza A (H1N1) pdm09 dominancy.
