Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is the etiologic agent of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). AIDS, first described in 1981, caused more than 35 million deaths within the last 30 years. Prevention of HIV/AIDS requires early diagnosis, initiation of treatment, and regular monitoring of the infected person in terms of plasma viral load. In addition, the information about the incidence which will be determined by the use of accurate and sensitive tests will help efforts to prevent HIV in public health studies. For this reason, the development of more appropriate point of care bedside test technologies that will allow early diagnosis of HIV, measurement of viral load, and determination of CD4 (+) cell numbers are important. Consequently, it is important to prevent viral transmission in order to have new generations without AIDS disease.
