Virulence factors of Bordetella bronchiseptica strains, sythesis level of some of the antigens and immunogenicity of the strains were investigated. filamentous hemagglutinin (FHA), adenylate cyclase hemolysin (AC-Hly), pertactin, fimbria (FimD), 36 kDa protein and fimbriae components that have major roles in pathogenicity were observed to be sythesized in different quantities by B. bronchiseptica strains. Early initiated and high level AC-Hly (9.2-17.8) secretion of the strains showed the first level relationship of AC-Hly synthesis with the strong letality of B. bronchiseptica strains. Besides, high level protection (80-100%) in mice against bacterial challenge was determined in parallel with the high and cross-reacted agglutinin level of the same mice immunized with whole-cell vaccines of the strains. Generally, major antigenic differences among the clinical isolates and strains were observed despite the minimum cross-reaction adequate for protection.
