In this study, ıt was aimed to evaluate the eff icacy of widely used disinfectants and anticeptics on nosocomial and multiresistant
bacteria which were isolated in Haydarpasa Numune Training Hospital. Th e eff ect of ethyl alcohol 70%, gluteraldehide 2%,
sodyum hypochloride 5%, benzalkonium chloride (benzalkonium chloride 7.5%, nonoxynol 9 2%), povidone-iodine 10%,
phenol compounds (phenol 7.05 %, sodium phenate 1.20%, gluteraldehide 4% ) on 10 strains from each of Escherichia coli,
Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Acinetobacter spp. and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) isolated from various clinical
samples and three ATCC standart strains (P. aeruginosa 27853, E. coli 25922, S.aureus 6538) were studied by suspension
test method. Ethyl alcohol was eff ective on MRSA from the first minute, and on Acinetobacter spp. from the 20th minute, and
on the other bacteria from the fift h minute. While 10% povidone iodine was eff ective on all strains, 10% povidone iodine at
1/10 dilution was not eff ective enough on MRSA strains at first and fift h minutes. Phenol compound was eff ective at twentieth
minute on all bacteria. Sodium hypochloride and gluteraldehide were found to be the most eff ective agents on all bacteria in
all consantrations and contact times.
