Keywords: Brucellosis, Serolopositivity |
Objective: This study was aimed to investigate brucellosis seropositivity and to evaluate serologic data for
brucellosis in Siirt, Turkey.
Materials and Methods: Sociodemographic and serologic data of 9107 brucellosis pre-diagnosed patients
admitted to Siirt Public Hospital Microbiology Laboratory between January 2009 and January 2010, were
evaluated retrospectively.
Results: Brucella seropositivity was detected in 989 (10.9%) patients whose mean age was 40.2 years (age range
2-110 years) and 62.6% of them were females. No statistically significant difference was detected between female
and male patients for seropositivity. The increase in brucella seropositivity was significant between July and
September.
Conclusion: Brucellosis is still a widespread disease in our region. It is necessary to apply vast public health
programmes for preventation of human and animal brucellosis.
