Determination of anaerobic bacteria as infectious agents depends on the isolation and identification of the
agent from the appropriate material. These processes are difficult, time-consuming and require experienced
personnel. Following this, the fact that the antibiotic susceptibility tests of the isolated and identified bacteria
are not performed in many medical microbiology laboratories or take a long time leads clinicians to empirical
treatment options in the treatment approach. In addition, the differences in the methods routinely applied for
all these processes cause us to encounter highly variable results in the data presented globally. The selection
of antibiotics for empirical treatment in cases where anaerobic bacteria are considered to be the etiology
is based on regional surveillance data. Therefore, it is important to present antibiotic susceptibility results
periodically. In this review; In addition to providing information about antibiotic susceptibility test methods in
anaerobic bacteria, it is aimed to present the periodic and regional similarities and differences in antimicrobial
susceptibility test results by examining the data obtained on the subject at different time intervals in our country
and in the world.
