The Serological Groups of Beta Haemolytic Streptococci Isolated from Throat Cultures |

Group A beta haemolytic streptococci are responsible for majority of cases of streptococcal tonsillopharyngitis. But also other serogroups, especially group C and G beta haemolytic streptococci, may cause acute bacterial pharyngitis. 256 patients who applied to the Selçuk University, Faculty of Medicine Department of Clinical Bacteriology and Infectious Diseases with complaints of fever and sore throat were evaluated with throat cultures for serotyping of beta haemolytic streptococci. 113 samples were screened by latex agglutination method. The isolation rates for various groups were as follows: group A 84. 08%, group B 4.42%, group C 7.08% and group G 4.42%.
