The aim of this study is to investigate the carrier state of group A beta hemolytic streptococci (GABHS) in students of two primary schools and to determine the presence of resistance to erythromycin.
Throat swabs of 400 healthy students 200 from each school, of two different primary schools, were obtained and isolation of microorganisms was performed on blood agar containing 5% blood.
In the primary school of them, 14 students (7.0 %) had GABHS in their throats, while other school there were 58 streptococcal carriers (29.0 %)(x2:14.03, p<0.05). The incidence of GABHS carriers was 18.0 % among all students (n: 72). Six of these strains (8.3 %) were resistant to erythromycin.
