In-vitro evaluation of antimicrobial activity of six root canal sealers on Enterococcus faecalis

The aim of this study was to evaluate the antimicrobial properties of six commonly used endodontic sealers: two epoxy-resin based sealers (AH 26, AH plus), one zinc-oxide eugenol based sealer (N2), one calcium hydroxide based sealer (sealapex), one silicone based sealer (RSA roekoseal) and one polycetone based sealer (Diaket) againts the isolates of E.faecalis. The inocula of bacteria were prepared from 12 h broth cultures (tryptone soy broth TSB) and suspensions were adjusted to 1 Mc. Farland standard turbidity. The inoculum was spread on tryptone soy agar (TSA). The freshly mixed sealers were placed into the prepared wells of agar plates. After periods of incubation the zone of growth inhibition were observed and measured. The sealers showed different inhibitory effects depending on the types. The RSA sealer was no effect on E.faecalis.
