Nocardia species are among the etiologic agents of opportunistic infections seen in immunocompromised patients. It rarely causes cerebral abscess in healthy hosts. A case of cerebral nocardia abscess in an immunocompetent patient was described in this report. Cerebral abscess was detected in a 57 years-old previously healthy woman who was admitted to the hospital with the complaints of headache, nausea and vomiting. Nocardia species was isolated from the abscess material. Trimetoprim-sulphametoxazole was initiated after abscess drainage. Although clinical findings regressed with this therapy, the dimensions of the abscess enlarged radiologically. Surgical drainage of the abscess was performed again and trimetoprim- sulphametoxazole was switched to imipenem. Complete clinical and radiological cure was detected after two months of antibiotic treatment.
