A 62-year-old male patient who had Hodgkin lymphoma was admitted to the hospital with the complaints of cough, sputum and shortness of breath. Following bronchial aspiration, empirical moxifloxacin and TMP/ SXT therapy was initiated. Direct microscopic examination of the bronchial aspirate revealed leukocytes and gram- positive bacilli arranged like Chinese letters. Smooth, round, 1 mm diameter white colonies were observed on the blood agar plate and they were detected as gram- positive bacilli. The isolate was identified with API Coryne identification system (Bio-Mmérieux, France) as API Coryne biyocode 7101004 and was defined to be Corynebacterium pseudodiphtheriticum with 99.6% probability. The patient exhibited a significantly good clinical response after a week of treatment. This case report was aimed to emphasize that non-diphteria Corynebacterium species has become increasingly important and they can be the cause of resistant respiratory infections especially in immunocompromised hosts.
