This report presents a case of a patient who presented to the hospital with symptoms of chills, shivering and fever following his business trip to Liberia. The microscopic examination of the thick and thin films of peripheral blood smear revealed the existence of Plasmodium falciparum in the blood sample of the 34 year-old male patient. Doxycycline that the patient had been taking as a part of his ongoing malaria treatment was considered to be inadequate, so. A new treatment protocol was arranged. As a result of this new treatment protocol, the patient's condition improved clinically and no additional malaria parasite was found in the blood smears prepared at regular controls. The purpose of this case is to draw attention to the risk of getting infected with malaria after traveling to a region where the disease is endemic.
