Antimicrobial Activity of Human Amniotic Fluid (1)

In this study , the antimicrobial activity of 52 amniotic fluid samples had been examined that were collected from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Ankara University during vaginal or cesarean deliveries.

Twenty two (42,3%) of 52 amniotic fluid samples showed inhibitory effect on E.coli, 23 (44,2%) on S.aureus, 24 (46,2%) on S.agalactiae and 29 (55,8%) on C.albicans. Thirty (57,7%), 29 (55,8%), 28 (53,8%), 23 (44.2%) of 52 amniotic fluid samples showed no inhibitory effect on E.coli, S.aureus, S.agalactiae and C.albicans respectively.

Relationships were also examined between the antimicrobial activity of the amniotic fluids and maternal age, number of birth, gestational week and type of delivery.

According to the results, there were no significant statistical relationship between the antimicrobial activity and maternal age and type of delivery but there was a significant statistical relationship between the antimicrobial activity and gestational week and number of birth.
