In our study 198 cases with proved catheter infections and followed in Şişli Etfal Training and Research Hospital between January 2000 and October 2002 were evaluated retrospectively. The antibacterial resistance rates were very high among the causative agents of nosocomial infections isolated from these cases; imipenem, ciprofloxacin and cefepime were more active compared with other broad spectrum antibacterials. It is emphasized that in order to prevent multiple drug resistance any unit should determine its own resistance patterns and appropriate treatment regimens.
