CMV infection is a common infection throughout the world and is related with the socio-economic status. This agent causes inutero fetus death or cytomegalic inclusion disease in newborns. In this study; with the aim of investigating the antibody profiles of cytomegalovirus of newborns; the cord sear of 452 healthy infants awere taken in the study. The cord sera were screened for anti-cytomegalovirus IgG and IgM antibodies by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). CMV IgM antibodies were detected in only 1 (0.22%) sample, CMV IgG antibodies were detected in 435 (96.23%) samples. These results showed that CMV infection is common in our population, and as this agent causes congenital infection effecting the fetus and newborns, antibody screening during pregnancy is recommendded.
