In this study, a total of 2341 blood cultures obtained during January to December 2001 were retrospectively evaluated by using BacT/ALERT system. As result, 449 (19.2) were positive, 31(1.3%) were contaminations and 1861 (79.5%) were accepted as negative.

Of the positive growth cultures, among a total of 466 isolates (17 cultures with two bacteria), methicillin resistance Staphylococcus aureus (114, 24.5%) Gram negative enteric bacilli (100, 21.5%) methicillin susceptible Staphylococcus aureus (89, 19.1%) coagulase negative Staphylococci (47, 10.1%) and enterococci (32, 6.9%) were revealed as the most freguently isolated bacteria, whereas others were isolated in lower frequencies.
