In this study, we aimed to detect beta-haemolytic streptococci (BHS) serogroups and their resistance to several antibiotics.
By using presumptive and latex agglutination tests 120 BHS isolates were grouped as follows 60 % A, 19 % B, 3 % C, and
18 % G. All of the BHS were susceptible to penicillin G, ampicillin, vancomycin and linezolid. Resistance rates for
erythromycin, clindamycin, cloramphenicol, tetracycline, levofloxacin, and telithromycin were 13 %, 8 %, 2 %, 48 %, 2 %,
and 2 % respectively. MIC90 values for penicillin G in A, B and G groups were, 0,012 μg/ml, 0,047 μg/ml and 0,016 μg/ml;
for erythromycin; 0,125 μg/ml , 3 μg/ml and 6 μg/ml respectively. 7 CMLSB, 7 IMLSB, and 2 M phenotypes were detected
among the 16 erythromycin resistant BHS strains. Group A was the most frequent serogroup in clinical isolates. However,
other serogroups were not rare.
