Investigation of Rubella and Cytomegalovirus Antibodies in Women in their Reproductive Age

Objective: Primary rubella and cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections during pregnancy are of special importance since they may lead to fetal damage. This study was aimed to determine retrospectively the presence of rubella and CMV IgG antibodies in women aged 15-45 years admitted in 2010 to Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinics of Tavşanlı Dr. Mustafa Kalemli State Hospital, Kütahya, Turkey.

Materials and Methods: Rubella IgG and CMV IgG antibodies were searched by enzyme immunoassay (EIA) in 666 serum samples taken from women of reproductive age (15-45 yrs) consulted to microbiology laboratory of our hospital in 2010.

Results: Rubella seropositivity was detected in 94.6%, and CMV seropositivity in 98.9% of the samples.

Conclusion: Rubella and CMV serpositivity rates were high in the women of reproductive age in Tavşanlı, Kütahya, Turkey.
