In this study, antibiotic susceptibilities of 105 N. gonorrhoeae strains that were isolated during 1992 – 1996 were investigated by disc diffusion method and agar dilution method that have been determined minimal inhibition consantrations ( MICs ). Furthermore, beta – lactamase ( penicillinase ) enzyme producing strains (PPNG) were investigated by chromogenic sephalosporin method.
From the isolates, 22 % ( 23 ) of strains were resistant to penicilin and 6.7 % (7) were positive for the enzyme beta – lactamase. Depending on susceptibility results performed by agar dilution and disc diffusion methods, the rate of resistance to tetracycline was 4.8 % (5). In seven of the strains caresistance againts penicillin was observed with tetracycline resistance, three of which were beta – lactamase positive and two had high level tetracycline resistance ( MIK≥ 16 μg/ml ). Resistance againts cefoxitin and erythromycin were 22 % (23) and 32 % (34) respectively. In two strains ( 1.9 % ), diminished susceptibility to ofloxacin had been found. There was no resistant strain against ceftriaxone, spectinomycin and ciprofloxacin. There was a good correlation between the results of the disc diffusion and agar dilution methods.
